It doesn’t come as a surprise that I’m suggesting we do a project that uses some material taken from nature. This time we are going to take a walk by the river to pick up some stones.

Since we are still enjoying Summer, I chose a project that can prove itself very useful to your outside garden or porch. A Summer trivet!

Here’s what you are going to need:

  • Flat river stones
  • Hot glue gun
  • Colourful felt
  • Scissors
  • Pen/pencil

The list is not too long and the instructions are also simple.

Start by tracing the trivet shape and size on the felt. I opted for a round shape since I used another trivet as measurement. After that it’s time to use the scissors to cut the shape.

Now comes the fun part. Choosing the right combination of stones to make your trivet interesting. It’s kind of like solving a tangram puzzle!

Keep a couple of things in mind:

  1. It’s important that the stones are as even as possible when it comes to the top surface.
  2. When you start gluing, the position of the stones might shift a little and you might have to replace a few of the “puzzle pieces”.
  3. So, all it’s left to do is to glue the stones to the felt with the hot glue gun and make a good lemonade to celebrate!
